THE FIRST GRADE PUPILS MADE AN HERBARIUM

Hi!!We are the little students of the first grade of Primary Education at Francisco Arranz School, from Madrid.
Helped by our teachers MªCarmen and Raquel, we have been investigating some plants and trees we can find in our surroundings. We are really lucky, because there is a big park next to our school called “Parque de las Cruces”, which is the ideal place to learn more information about forests. Moreover, we have been also collecting some elements of trees we have been founding with our own families.
And here comes our Investigating Project!!
The first thing we did was going to the park to see, smell and touch the trees, the leaves and the fruits. We talked about the similarities and the differences between the trees we found and we took some samples of these trees. We had a great time!
Then, in our classrooms, we analyzed these samples.
One of the classes worked with the leaves and the fruits of some of the trees we found in this park, but also, some leaves and fruits we had been bringing to the school. We discovered several trees, such as holm oaks, chestnuts, pines and walnuts. Finally we worked in groups and each group prepared an information card of each tree. The other classroom analyzed the samples collected from our park. We discovered different trees such as arbutus, pines and cedars. We were able to create our own herbariums. As you can see in the pictures, we are artists!
We learnt a lot about trees!! We wish we can repeat this activity in spring to see the flowers growing!
Hope you like it!!
